This work was inspired by - and created for - the cross-border region of San Diego-Tijuana being designated as the 2024 World Design Capital. Grayish explores the interplay and boundaries of space, movement, and interaction, both physically and conceptually. Navigating the tension between division and connection, Grayish aims to transcend the concept of borders, where things aren't quite black or white, but rather...'grayish'.
What's with the black bracelets?
The creation of Grayish was an experimental design project incorporating some new technology. We are using motion sensors on the dancers to blend music and movement. These sensors capture various aspects of the dancers' motions, such as tilt angles and accelerations, transforming them into sound parameters in real-time, creating a fusion of auditory and kinetic expressions.
